Project Title: Interactive Activity Stations to Demystify STEM and History Learning
Project Description:

We are partnering with SmartGirls HQ to leverage tablet and other computer-based technology along with offline activity kits to create 6 interactive learning stations that include activities designed to activate all 5 senses and a scavenged hunt incorporating insights from each stations. These stations will align with STEM curriculum, using history as the connective thread. Potential topics include nature, engineering and physical structures, industrial trades, and more centered on the Museums exhibitions as well as the 5 historic structures in our care.

The goal of the program is to make STEM learning accessible to all by using a multi-disciplinary and technology-based approach to meet students where they are in their own learning journey. We know today’s students need a mastery of STEM skills, but that often they lack access to information presented in a way that encourages retention and applicability of the skills to their own lives. Museums are natural spaces for this learning as research shows visitors are inherently open to new ideas, new methodologies, and the acquisition of skills. This is particularly important for our local students, the majority of whom in the area surrounding the Museum are Title One. By making this learning both fun and accessible, we better prepare students to succeed in future college and career readiness which supports increased graduation rates. Investing in elementary mastery of core competencies has lasting impacts on future success.

Total Project Budget: $10000
