Project Title: Unscripted Core Program
Project Description:

The Unscripted Project’s mission is to equip students with the building blocks for personal and professional success through the power of an improv education. We hope to create a world in which every child leaves school prepared to embrace challenge, seize opportunity, and unlock their own potential. All programs are fully tuition-free for students and schools.

The Unscripted Core Program employs the improv mindset and toolkit as vehicles for socioemotional learning and college/career readiness. It is delivered via 10 in school, classroom-based workshops, and was created with the counsel of our partners at Magnet Theater in NYC, Philly Improv Theater, and The Second City Chicago. It is aligned with PA state standards, CASEL social-emotional learning standards and both the School District of Philadelphia (SDP) Arts and Creativity Framework and “Get Ready, Leave Ready” college and career-readiness standards. Each week is focused on a key concept (ex: understanding different perspectives, applying storytelling techniques to job interviews, supporting teammates) and consists of warm-ups, exercises, and debrief. Our lessons incorporate trauma-informed teaching practices, provide multiple access points for participation, support multiliteracies, and allow teachers to differentiate their approach for students with special needs, including individuals with autism and English Language Learners.

The Unscripted Project began with five classrooms of students in 2020. As of March 2024, more than 2,300 students and 108 classrooms have completed our free, ten-week Core Program.
