Project Title: Appel Farm Arts Camp
Project Description:

Appel Farm formally requests a donation from the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation for $10,000 to help support disadvantaged youth to attend Appel Farm Arts Camp 2025 on Arts Camp Scholarships. Matched with other funding and tuition income, this grant will support camp operations, enabling Appel Farm to award needs-based scholarships for at-risk and underserved children from New Jersey to participate in an intensive one-week, two-week, or four-week residential arts camp session at Appel Farm and provide them with life changing opportunities.

Appel Farm Arts Camp encourages the growth of self-esteem, skill building, creativity, and a respect for diversity, fostered by an international staff of professional artists and educators. Each summer, we welcome hundreds of campers ages 8-16 to explore the arts on our 115-acre campus in rural Southern NJ. This dynamic overnight program allows students to build social skills and develop peer relationships while combating summer learning loss through activities rooted in National Core Arts Standards. We invite students to disconnect from phones and virtual spaces and be truly present in artmaking. Our creative, inclusive approach infuses unique arts learning with non-traditional opportunities for physical activity, supporting overall wellness and reinforcing our key values of safety, community, personal growth, and fun.

Among its regional peers, Appel Farm is unique in the breadth and depth of experiences it is able to offer. Instruction in artforms like ceramics and analog photography require facilities (e.g. darkroom and ceramics kiln) that are uncommon if not entirely absent from schools in our region. Scholarships ensure that we can provide these tactile artmaking experiences for youth.
