Project Title: Financial Aid for Summer Theatre Camps
Project Description:

Founded in 2003 as an educational theatre company, Traveling Players Ensemble’s mission is to enhance self-expression, self-reliance, and problem-solving skills, as well as to heighten appreciation of life’s challenges and beauty by bringing great theatre into the great outdoors. Our goal is to provide an outstanding theatre experience for students that will contribute to their maturity and cultivate a lifelong love of both theatre and the outdoors while meeting rigorous artistic and educational standards.

Our classes and camps (for grades 2-12) provide a full continuum of theatre training, from beginner workshops to advanced conservatories. Traveling Players’ programs feature small groups by design (13 performers) and are awarded for excellence, including the NEA selecting us as 1 of the nation’s 25 model “Summer Schools in the Arts.” We specialize in innovative training with substantial contact hours, often leading to transformative student growth. Students take part in every aspect of production and performance – from page to stage, from load-in to strike.

Our student ensembles are founded on the principles of inclusion, diversity, and equality. Our financial aid program is the most generous for theatre arts in the area, without annual or lifetime caps. No student is turned away for lack of funds. In 2024, we will award $60,000 in need-based financial aid, including to families with annual incomes of $18,000 and $40,000.

In 2024, Traveling Players expects to deliver innovative, immersive theatre education to 1300 students in grades 2-12, including 360 in free programming. Students will perform a total of 49 performances for 4100 diverse audience members of all ages.

Traveling Player’s Studio is in Tysons Corner Center, where they teach acting and perform family-friendly plays all year long. Traveling Players’ sleepaway camps and conservatories are in residence at Freedom Center (Leesburg, VA). Campers live together in lodges, immersed in an intentional community of their peers.
