Project Title: Academic Readiness – Preschool Music Program
Project Description:

“Declines in arts education disproportionately impact Black and Brown students, who have seen 49% and 40% reductions, respectively, since the ’80s.”

Grace Notes Music Foundation (GNMF), founded in 2010, is a 501c3 community-based organization in Jupiter, Florida. GNMF’s mission is to provide equitable access to music education’s joys and documented academic benefits through free music education programs for underserved children and people with disabilities in Palm Beach County (PBC). GNMF achieves its mission in partnership with PBC Title 1 Schools, where poverty is high and academic achievement is low, and with PBC community-based nonprofit organizations that serve underserved and at-risk people and communities. GNMF provides need/income-based,

In/After-School Music Education
Scholarships for Private Music Lessons
Mindful Music Therapy Program for Teens

GNMF requests funding to implement the Music Together preschool curriculum in collaboration with Faith’s Place Preschool and After School Educational Center and Head Start preschool programs.

The purpose of this program goes beyond learning to play an instrument and into the well-documented benefits of music education. Music education prepares students for learning by helping to develop their basic mental skills and capacities. Music instruction impacts learning by preparing students to learn by fostering working memory and thinking skills; facilitates academic achievement by improving recall and retention of learned information; and music education develops creative capacities by strengthening attentiveness, perseverance, and self-esteem for lifelong success (citations available upon request):

GNMF proposes implementing a "Music Together" program (musictogether.com) for the 2024-2025 school year. The preschoolers will receive two 45-minute weekly classes using the "Music Together" materials. Music Together has a history of implementing its program with organizations such as Head Start. It has research-based literature on early childhood music education’s psycho-social and academic-readiness benefits. This program aims to support children’s development in key early learning domains to improve grade-school readiness.
