Project Title: Academic Success Program
Project Description:
For 85 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Chattahoochee Valley (BGCCV) has been a pillar of support for the youth in the region. Our dedicated and experienced team of staff and volunteers have established strong partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and businesses, which have enhanced our ability to provide comprehensive services in our 3 program focus areas: Academic Success, Leadership & Workforce Development, and Healthy Lifestyles. Our organization has consistently provided a safe and welcoming environment for young people, ensuring the well-being during out-of-school hours for over 2,000 children annually at eight Club locations throughout Columbus, GA. This program seeks to serve all youth ages 5-18 across the Chattahoochee Valley who would benefit from programs that encourage them to thrive amid their circumstances and regardless of their background. While our program is open to youth of all backgrounds, over 93% of our members identify as a minority and over 90% qualify for free and reduced lunch.
BGCCV’s Academic Success program is well-positioned to fill the educational gaps in the Chattahoochee Valley region. The program’s portfolio of research-based and results-oriented programs directly address the educational challenges faced by economically disadvantaged students in our community. For instance, Power Hour provides homework help and tutoring, fostering self-directed learning; DIY STEM engages youth in hands-on, activity-based STEM learning, connecting theoretical concepts to real-life applications; and Summer Brain Gain offers a structured and engaging summer learning experience, countering the learning loss often experienced during extended breaks. The emphasis on critical thinking, 21st-century skills, and social-emotional development equips students not only academically but also for success in their future studies and careers. We provide an inclusive solution to help all youth thrive in an ever-competitive world.
