Project Title: Scouting in Every Neighborhood
Project Description:

The Boy Scouts of America is an organization that has been building great citizens and future leaders for more than 114 years Scouts gain conflict management skills, learn about participatory citizenship, and discover the value of things like teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and the importance of family. Through our program, Scouts learn how to solve problems for themselves and develop greater self-esteem.

The Mission of the Mayflower Council, BSA is to serve others by helping to instill values in young people and in other ways prepare them to make ethical choices over their lifetime in achieving their full potential. The values we strive to instill are based upon the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

One of the priority goals of the Council is to make Scouting thrive in every community. That means offering Scouting to families that currently lack the financial ability to enroll their sons and daughters in Scouting. The Council has embarked on a special effort to reach youth in underserved communities through a program called ‘‘Scouting in Every Neighborhood.’’

The Scouting in Every Neighborhood initiative benefits low income and underserved children in the communities we serve. We deliver the Scouting program in schools, religious institutions, and neighborhood community centers, where at least 50 % of the children qualify for the free school lunch program. Under this initiative, the cost of registration, supplies, and uniforms are made available at no cost to the Scouts who qualify. The Council also provides summer camp scholarships to families in need. We feel strongly that no child should be turned away from our program because of their inability to cover the various costs.
