Project Title: Circle of Parents Children’s Program Expansion
Project Description:
Established in 2004, Circle of Parents® operates across 19 states, with our headquarters located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Circle of Parents is committed to preventing child abuse and neglect by offering Parent’s and Children’s Programs at no cost to participants. Engaging parents/caregivers and children in their own focused programs simultaneously is a key objective to our success. Our Children’s Program is conducted while parents participate in their sessions, eliminating the barrier of childcare and incentivizing parents to attend.
The Children’s Program includes structured sessions that are developmentally appropriate, building confidence and self-worth while providing fun and enjoyment. Our trained facilitators support children in developing essential social and emotional skills. During each session there are opportunities for children to enhance their self-esteem and social skills through problem-solving and conflict resolution exercises. This results in better mental health and behavioral outcomes for children. We are currently seeking $10,000 in funding to expand our Children’s Program to extend our reach.
Our programs are designed to support individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. Program participants come from families facing various risk factors that increase the likelihood of child abuse such as substance abuse recovery, incarceration history, poverty, involvement with child protective services, and being a Veteran. The participants in the Parent’s Program include parents, foster and adoptive parents, stepparents, and other caregivers such as kinship (family) caregivers. The children in our program range in age up to teenagers.
Using a research-based approach, our model focuses on enhancing Protective Factors within families, including fostering supportive interactions, ensuring access to necessary resources, building strong emotional bonds between parents and children, teaching stress management techniques, and setting age-appropriate expectations. By providing tailored support and resources, we aim to create a nurturing environment that promotes the well-being and healthy development of all children involved.
