Project Title: Warm Hands & Warm Soles
Project Description:
At OSPREY Camp, we offer a transformative one-week outdoor education adventure to 5th and 6th graders in Washington State. Our program immerses students in the wonders of the Puget Sound watershed, guiding them to identify native plants and animal tracks. However, the children we serve face significant challenges. Our students come from Title 1 schools and live well below the poverty line, with some even experiencing homelessness, residing in shelters or their family’s car.
Heartbreakingly, upon arrival at OSPREY Camp, many children lack the necessities to stay warm. Ill-prepared and without proper clothing, they face discomfort and uncertainty during their camp experience. But at OSPREY Camp, we refuse to let them endure this hardship alone. Our compassionate staff bridges the gap, ensuring every child without a coat, gloves, or warm socks receives them upon arrival. It’s not just about providing warmth; it’s about showing these children they are seen, valued, and cared for.
By the end of their time at OSPREY Camp, these young participants take home cherished memories and the tangible warmth of a coat, gloves, and socks. It’s a small gesture with a profound impact, instilling a sense of dignity and belonging in children who may otherwise feel forgotten. Join us in ensuring that every child’s journey at OSPREY Camp is filled with comfort, warmth, and the unwavering support they deserve.
Each school year, we serve approximately 2,500 students, and more than 75% arrive without proper attire.
