Project Title: Unlocking Youth Potential Through Volunteering
Project Description:

History: Since 1987, Rancho Feliz has brought people together to transcend cultural boundaries through education and service work on the US-Mexico border. Rancho Feliz embraces the power of the Reciprocal Giving Cycle, a distinctive philosophy that rejects traditional welfare approaches in favor of preserving the integrity of the human spirit. This reciprocal giving principle underscores the idea that both givers and receivers mutually benefit, creating a dynamic cycle of positive impact.

Project Description: Rancho Feliz’s Volunteer Exchange Program offers transformative experiences to youth and young adults in the Phoenix Metropolitan area, providing them with invaluable life skills and cultural immersion opportunities. Engaging in volunteer activities has been shown to affect youth development profoundly. Research indicates that youth who volunteer experience decreased risk factors associated with negative behaviors, such as substance abuse and academic disengagement. Volunteering also fosters the development of essential life skills like communication, leadership, and teamwork, promoting personal growth and resilience in participants. Furthermore, volunteering has been linked to improved mental health outcomes, including increased self-esteem and a sense of purpose among youth.

Rancho Feliz’s Volunteer Exchange Program offers diverse volunteer opportunities, each designed to provide meaningful experiences while addressing the needs of the US-Mexico border communities. Annually, our program impacts 85 youth and young adults from the Phoenix Metropolitan area, offering them the chance to engage in activities such as home construction, food distribution, border wall visits, and interactive school visits. Through these experiences, participants contribute to positive change in the communities they serve and undergo transformative personal growth, returning home as more empathetic, appreciative, and socially responsible individuals. By supporting Rancho Feliz’s Volunteer Exchange Program, the Hermanowski Family Foundation would invest in developing future leaders equipped with the skills and values necessary to create positive change in their communities.
