Project Title: HomeAid Family CareCenter
Project Description:

As is widely known, California is suffering a homelessness crisis, causing the economic disruption of entire communities, and putting the futures of many children in jeopardy. In Southern California, the average cost of living has outpaced average wages, leading many vulnerable groups to lose their housing and enter the cycle of homelessness. There are approximately 270 unsheltered families experiencing homelessness specifically in Orange County, California. One of the leading beacons of hope for ending family homelessness in Orange County is the Family CareCenter, a 56-bed emergency shelter specifically for families with minor children under 18. Open 365 days a year, the CareCenter supports up to 450 parents and children annually on the return to stable housing through housing navigation and other resources & services. The CareCenter is designed to keep families together and ensure the best outcomes for children experiencing homelessness, allowing them to build bright futures. Since its opening in 2017, the CareCenter has served over 1,500 adults and their children on their journey out of homelessness.

In recognition of its importance to Orange County’s system of ending homelessness, the CareCenter has been approved to increase capacity from 56 to 80 beds. As owners of the CareCenter, we at HomeAid OC are seeking funds to both increase capacity and upgrade facilities ensuring the health and safety of all that enter the CareCenter on their journey back to permanent stabilized housing. A charitable gift from the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation will help us continue the CareCenter’s work through the provision of meals, hygiene items, and coordination of needed maintenance, and upgrade of the facilities. You can help us keep the CareCenter a safe, dignified, and thriving place for children and families to receive support to return to stable housing.
