Project Title: CHC In-School Mentoring
Project Description:

Center for Humanistic Change (CHC) has the mission to give people, especially youth, the tools and knowledge they need to make better-informed and more positive life choices. Our work has at its core drug, alcohol, and tobacco product prevention education and programs as well as life skills development needed for healthy development, good relationships, and resilient character. Using evidence-based programs and experiences, our services meet people, including school students, where they are through social –emotional learning and mentoring, hands-on programs and resources, and current information on issues impacting our communities every day.
Requested funds will be used for the CHC Mentoring Program in-school program currently in 32 schools in Lehigh/ Northampton Counties. $4,900 will provide a trained, caring mentor to serve at-risk students in a local school for 3 months, meeting with students during their school day. Mentors work 1-on-1 or in small groups supporting at-risk students with social-emotional learning and mental health using an evidence-based mentoring curriculum, SPARK, and other creative, interactive approaches to connect with youth and address their concerns such as journaling, role play, meditation, art and music or sports.
Our mentors provide additional support to the school personnel and guidance and mental health who find the increase in mental health and social issues showing up each day with their students. Caring for our youth requires a “all hands on deck” approach to improve student outcomes and provide a safe, productive learning environment
