Project Title: Colorado Youth Transportation Equity Fellowship[
Project Description:
The Colorado Youth Transportation Equity fellowship empowers Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) youth leaders (17-29) to address transportation inequities primarily in marginalized communities, through a 10-month immersive program.
It focuses on incorporating education through digital storytelling, advocacy, and community engagement to create safer pedestrian conditions, aiming to end youth pedestrian deaths in BIPOC communities.
Youth fellows commit 15 hours monthly, attending virtual gatherings, development meetings, and educational sessions on equity, advocacy, and community engagement. Youth fellows will be compensated with a living wage to support their efforts and their dedication to this cause.
Support from The Charles and Joan Hermanowski Foundation will help provide a living wage stipend and aid in intervention seed funding for the fellows to execute hyper local projects in Denver, Colorado. These outreach projects include educational and community engagement interventions, digital and social media campaigns, community townhall and/or events, peer to peer educational campaigns, community assessment and outreach interventions. Ultimately this program is improving the lives of marginalized youth through health and safety education on transportation equity.
