Project Title: After School & Recreation Programs for Students with Complex Disabilities
Project Description:

Keshet is at the forefront of disability inclusion by creating a community of belonging where people of all abilities learn, play, work, live and grow together. Through schools, recreation, vocational support and residential homes, 600 people with disabilities benefit directly from Keshet support with another 4,000+ community members impacted each year. Keshet serves people with complex needs and from all backgrounds, with a commitment that no one should be turned away for an inability to pay for services.

Keshet seeks funding to expand after school activities for students with complex disabilities. For parents, it is difficult to find extracurricular options for their children with disabilities, and, when they do, the programs are often beyond their means. Their children do not get the social connections, mental wellness, physical health and self-confidence that comes with participation and, as working parents, they don’t have childcare.

Keshet recognizes that quality education includes learning that takes place outside of the classroom. Our youth programs provide opportunities for students to explore their interests, try new things and gain valuable life skills. Through music, fitness, art, cooking, drama and more, students develop motor skills, practice social skills, and get a boost to their self-esteem.

Even though Keshet does everything possible to keep costs low, the fees associated with after school and recreation are out of reach for many families. At Keshet’s schools, 42% of students come from low-income households. These families and many others in our community cannot afford to send their kids to these programs, and the students are missing out of the gaining skills that allow them to succeed and achieve their full potential.

With $6000, Keshet can make programs available to 12-15 students with disabilities at low or no cost, providing meaningful growth students, snacks and meals, and critical childcare for working parents.
