Project Title: Powering Up More Students in 2024
Project Description:

PowerUP Scholarship Fund, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is dedicated to empowering disadvantaged and special needs children through martial arts mentorship. Since 2017, our mission has been to instill core values of self-control, resilience, and respect while offering comprehensive after-school programs that foster personal growth and academic success.

Our innovative approach involves recruiting independent business owners, known as senseis, to provide mentorship and martial arts instruction directly to students in partnership with schools, afterschool programs, and community centers. By embedding senseis in their communities, we offer more than just martial arts classes – we provide positive role models who teach life skills and foster personal development.

With a proven track record of success, having served over 1,000 students and aiming to reach 1,300 scholars by 2024, PowerUP prioritizes academic performance and emotional well-being. We track outcomes through surveys and academic reports and have developed a "Strengths and Difficulties" questionnaire with the University of California Riverside to scientifically measure students’ growth in self-regulation.

One vital aspect of our work is our partnerships with local organizations, including underfunded schools and afterschool programs. Recently recommended to a Boys and Girls Club after a sports program cancellation due to an altercation, PowerUP offers a positive alternative, teaching discipline and respect in a safe environment.

In 2024, PowerUP is expanding nationally, starting with satellite classes in Austin, TX. With our flexible model and dedication to youth development, we aim to make an immediate impact on underserved communities across the United States.

We seek a $5,000 grant to support our national expansion initiative, enabling us to scale our proven martial arts mentorship program and extend our reach to underserved communities nationwide.

PowerUP is in strong financial standing, with reserves through 2024 and 100% board participation in giving, reflecting our commitment to our mission and the communities we serve.

At PowerUP Scholarship Fund, our mission is clear: to help kids thrive through martial arts mentorship. With your support, we can provide underserved youth with the tools they need to succeed academically and personally, empowering the next generation of leaders. Together, let’s make a lasting impact and help kids thrive in every aspect of their lives.
