Project Title: Fresh Force Summer Internship; A Multimodal Arts Intensive
Project Description:
Despite idyllic images of freedom from homework, summer can sometimes mean students lose educational momentum, especially those who are underserved to begin with. Refresh Collective employs Teaching Artists who work hard all school year with students, and we want to continue providing opportunities in the summer. This is why we are establishing the Refresh Collective Fresh Force Summer Internship program.
It is important to note that this program will be extending our already funded and impactful work during the school year, rather than starting something new. The settings and hours may differ, but our Teaching Artists who will be involved in the summer programming are experienced and skilled. The Hermanowski Foundation would be making it possible to continue quality engagement with students in the summer.
The is a multimodal arts and work force development program offered to students with disabilities and from underserved populations in Cincinnati. This intensive summer employment experience includes unique career exposure opportunities in Digital Recording Arts, Screen Printing + Embroidery, & Hydroponic Horticulture.
During this six week internship, students will cycle through 3 unique and exciting sites:
• Refresh Collective Print Shop + Embroidery, where they will design and hand print original apparel while learning about the design and print industry.
• Refresh Collective Recording Studio Classroom @ Aiken High School, where they will write, compose, record and perform original Hip-hop songs with their peers while being mentored by Refresh Teaching artist’s. They will be immersed in our cypher style curriculum, where more than 12,000 students have growth in social emotional health, while harnessing the power of their own story and delivering it through song.
• Aiken High School’s Nationally Recognized Horticulture Program, where students will work together to plant, tend to and grow their own hydroponic urban garden.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
