Project Title: Safe Families for Children Quad Cities Program Support
Project Description:
Safe Families for Children seeks to keep children safe and families together. We are rooted in faith, fueled by radical hospitality, disruptive generosity, and intentional compassion, to build a network of caring and compassionate volunteers to support families facing social isolation. Our goals are to prevent child abuse and neglect, reduce the number of children entering the child welfare system, and support and stabilize families. As we continue into the final months of our fiscal year, funding is being requested to cover program costs for the Quad Cities chapter which include recruiting and training volunteer host families, facilitating hosting and mentoring arrangements, and connecting families in need with services provided at no charge without a burdensome cost to society. Safe Families is altering the landscape of the child welfare system by deflecting children from entering state custody and keeping healthy families intact. We desire to transform and to surround each family with 3-5 vetted and trained volunteers: The host family provides safe and no-cost child care; the family coach works with the parent to stabilize the family’s crisis, set goals and build a new future for the family; the family friend provides additional support such as providing transportation, running errands or bringing meals for the host family, and the resource friend provides basic needs such as clothing, diapers or groceries as needed. We seek to revitalize families, and ultimately, heal neighborhoods and communities – one family at a time. We accomplish this by walking alongside parents to set individual goals for their family according to the family’s unique needs in income, housing, employment, or recovery; their family coach provides weekly check-ins as they achieve these goals and prepare for family stabilization.
