Project Title: Maui GEMs
Project Description:
Our Summer Internship Program, designed to empower 20 Maui County girls aged 14-19, is enriched with a comprehensive support structure that extends beyond the immediate four-week internship. Beginning two months prior to the physical internship, participants engage in a preparatory phase, where they receive foundational training and resources to prime them for their upcoming professional experiences. This pre-internship support is crucial for equipping the girls with the necessary skills and confidence to maximize their learning and contributions during the actual internship.
Spanning four weeks, the core of the program pairs each girl with a mentor, who is a successful business owner, to provide guidance and support as they navigate their internships at local businesses. This mentorship is pivotal, ensuring a personalized, nurturing, and enriching journey for each participant, aiming to instill practical work experience, foster mentorship relationships, and develop key skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
Furthermore, our program emphasizes the importance of ongoing support following the internship. Through post-internship follow-ups, we continue to engage with the participants, offering additional resources, guidance, and opportunities to reflect on their experiences and plan their future endeavors. This sustained engagement helps solidify the gains made during the internship and mentorship periods, encouraging continuous personal and professional growth.
Our comprehensive approach, encompassing pre-internship preparation, an immersive internship experience, and ongoing post-internship support, aims to increase awareness of diverse career paths, inspire the girls to pursue their passions, and empower them to become confident, assertive leaders. By providing a holistic developmental experience, we are committed to inspiring and equipping the next generation of female leaders, ready to excel in their chosen fields.
