Project Title: Cycle Sanpete’s Happy City
Project Description:
We are seeking $5,000 from the Hermanowski Foundation to launch a high school enrichment program centered around the book "Happy City" by Charles Montgomery. This innovative program aims to engage and empower high school students by exploring the intersection of urban design and happiness, ultimately fostering community engagement and inspiring future urban leaders.
Through guided readings of "Happy City," students will work to understand the impact of urban environments on happiness and well-being. They will delve into Montgomery’s insights, exploring case studies from around the globe that demonstrate the transformative power of thoughtful and people-centric urban design.
Following their exploration, students will be tasked with identifying ways their local community can enhance happiness through city design and activities. They will work collaboratively to develop proposals, project budgets, and presentations to be delivered at a city council meeting. This hands-on experience will empower students to become active participants in shaping their communities for the better.
The $5,000 grant will directly support student-led projects aimed at improving local urban environments. From implementing community gardens to creating pedestrian-friendly spaces, and more, students will have the opportunity to turn their ideas into impactful initiatives with tangible outcomes.
By participating in this program, students will not only gain valuable knowledge and skills in urban planning but also cultivate a sense of civic responsibility and community engagement. Through their efforts, they will inspire positive change and contribute to the creation of happier, more sustainable cities. This experience will also boost their resume, college applications, and provide opportunities for networking and references.
In summary, our high school enrichment program offers a unique educational opportunity that combines academic exploration with real-world application. With your support, we can empower the next generation of urban leaders and foster a brighter future for our communities.
