Project Title: The Safe Place
Project Description:

The Safe Place Support Program is a new for youth in our community and we will be running it from May 2024 to April 2025. The Safe Place program seeks to utilize several modalities with a support group space to assist youth who are dealing with PTSD, stress, trauma, depression, substance use disorder or those who might have co-occurring disorders. The goal of the Safe Place Program is to be just that a safe place for program participants to know they are not alone and that they can work through their issues and concerns. The objective of the program will be as follows.

• To Alleviate the pressures of identifying negative thought patterns that negatively impact a person’s behavior and emotions
• To initiate a sense of belonging or reliability through understanding, which is achieved by sharing common experiences
• Helping individuals to identify maladaptive behavior
• Providing help with emotional difficulties through positive feedback
• Offering individuals, a supportive environment of peers with similar life experiences
• Reducing feelings of loneliness and alienation by bringing together individuals with shared experiences and emotional patterns
• Building program participants efficacy to consider leading peer to peer group
• Reduce the stigma that is related to seeking out mental health professionals for assistance
The project will be 2 cohorts of 8 week closed sessions with each session lasting 90 minutes. Sessions will include check-ins, topic for that day, group interaction with the topic and feedback from participants.

• PTSD: Taking your power back
• Detaching from emotional pain (Grounding)
• Asking for Help
• Taking Good Care of Yourself
• Commitment
• Coping with Triggers
• Healing from Anger

Upon completion of the first 8 week session, we will create a peer lead group from the first cohort that will continue to meet for their own sessions if they desire too.
