Project Description:

Social Skills Group program. Autism R.E.C social skills programs are designed to enhance the social skills in children with autism, led by nationally certified speech therapists. The program provides our children with structured learning activities related to fostering communication skills, supporting learning at home and decision making. Private speech therapy sessions are
also available for the youth who need additional support. To effectively operate this
program, we use the following curriculum and planned activities:
Foundational Skills for Young Children
Autism R.E.C. provides three social skills practice opportunities. We Thinkers!, a social
thinking program developed by Michelle Garcia Winner, a leading researcher and in social
thinking curriculum developer. The program helps children build foundational social
competencies and essential life skills through stories, lessons, and play activities. The teachings
help kids better understand themselves and others, develop self-awareness, learn perspective
taking, social problem solving, and supports social-emotional learning, relationship building,
classroom learning, and academic performance. The curriculum is designed to be used with both
typically developing children and those with social emotional learning challenges.
Zones of Regulation Practice
Zones of Regulation Practice-Helps children to identify their emotions, develop self-regulation
skills, identify triggers, and develop coping strategies using a series of zone colors.
Children will be grouped according to age and communication skill level. Typically developing
siblings will also be welcomed in the group.
Social Skills Group Curriculum and Practice
Superflex is a social thinking curriculum developed by Michele Garcia Winner. The Superflex
curriculum introduces the program participants to a hero character who teaches them to become
more self-aware and conquer social challenges. It provides practice in adapting more effectively
and taking control of their own thinking.
