Project Title: Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders: Fostering Holistic Youth Development through After School Central (ASC) and After School SERVE Programs in Whitley County, Indiana
Project Description:
The Center for Whitley County Youth (The Center), is a distinguished youth development organization committed to fostering youth development through service, outreach, and collaboration. The Center is steadfast in its pursuit of empowering local youth by offering an array of free and diverse programs meticulously crafted to equip young people with the requisite tools and resources for realizing their utmost potential, thereby nurturing them into the vanguard of future leadership. Since its establishment in 2005, The Center has positively impacted over 1,000 distinct young individuals.
The Center seeks an investment of $7,500 from the Hermanowski Family Foundation to promote youth development in Whitley County through our After School Central (ASC) and After School SERVE (SERVE) programs. Both programs run simultaneously to each other but serve different age groups of youth and encompass different pursuits of student enrichment. ASC caters to 6th through 8th-grade youth and furnishes homework assistance, a secure and supervised environment, and avenues for recreational activities, creative pursuits, and interaction with exemplary role models. SERVE is a volunteer program for 9th to 12th-grade students and focuses on the acquisition of vocational skills, resume development, community service, mentorship of younger peers, and the cultivation of an enjoyable and enriching experience. Notably, our After School Central and SERVE programs have been successfully replicated in the communities of Columbia City, South Whitley, and Churubusco.
An investment from the Hermanowski Family Foundation will bolster resources for crucial components, including nutritious snacks, emergency student support, program supplies, mentoring, academic tutoring, and our free-to-youth cafe. These provisions aim to help all local youth reach their highest potential emotionally, spiritually, mentally, academically, and physically. More details about our programs and impact can be found in our impact report at Tinyurl.com/2023CenterImpactReport.
Total Project Budget: $305,170 (This is the cost associated with running and maintaining an ASC and SERVE program at three different locations: Columbia City [$133,980], South Whitley [$138,730], and Churubusco [$32,460])
