Project Title: The HF Educational Support Program
Project Description:

Educators who provide emotional support and establish positive relationships influence children’s and students’ health, overall mental wellness, and life satisfaction. Our partners and sponsors will work together to bring entrepreneurial learning, health and wellness, social and emotional learning, and healing for our program participants. There is an urgent need to improve access to mental health support by reducing barriers, changing attitudes and perceptions about mental health, and eliminating discriminatory practices that harm students with mental health challenges. We will partner with Rafiki Coalition for Health and Wellness, Healthright 360, and other nonprofits to work with our program participants to develop an
individualized plan that promotes educational, social, emotional, and behavioral skill development and improves overall mental health or well-being. We have crisis response plans and strategies in place, working with the City of SF, local police departments, nonprofits, and violence prevention programs in our neighborhoods to support youth and families in crisis. Through ongoing discussion with current participants, we’ve developed strategies to support youth from underserved neighborhoods, including those with disabilities, to improve coordination and collaboration with local community and city agencies, and work towards healing and wellness for all. 30 Youth will be served in collaboration with our partner organization, Ingleside Community Center, and coordination with school staff, families, students, and/or other community-based organizations to develop IEPs to support participants in making academic gains in core subjects. We will use the information collected through assessments to create individual service plans that include benchmarks and goals developed with youth, based on test scores and/or grades. Our programs will provide tutoring for participants in core subjects including math, science, literacy, and writing. Activities will have specific skill-building goals with components including learning goals and objectives and corresponding activities that help meet these goals and objectives.
