Project Title: Research & Advocacy to support Connecticut children and families
Project Description:
We envision a thriving and equitable state where all children achieve their full potential. We are a research-based advocacy organization. Our research and recommendations are fundamental to family economic security and the undergirding fiscal and economic policy.
Our research focuses on tax reform and family economic security. Today, the state’s income and wealth divides are greater than ever, but so much of a child’s well-being is rooted in family economic security. Children cannot thrive unless families do, which is why CT Voices prioritizes affordable housing, criminal justice, and access to child care as well as the intersectional issues of health, child welfare, and education. CT Voices conducts research and analysis for investments in children and families as the primary budget priority, and we work with stakeholders and partners to advocate for a fair state tax system that supports children.
In 2025 we plan to release our annual State of Early Childhood and a tax/fiscal analysis for legislative session.
We’re researching and advocating for universal access to high-quality early child care for all CT residents, because early care and education (ECE) is essential to optimal child development. We know that the lack of ECE holds many parents back from work or other goals, the high cost of ECE puts many families in economic stress and ECE providers are underpaid, which contributes to high turnover rates and instability.
We research and advocate for tax reform to fund critical supports and services that aid family economic security. At the end of 2024 we will release a Tax & Budget paper. Following publication, we will advocate for our recommendations and hold forums and presentations to share our findings.
Our research and analysis helps policymakers be better advocates for children and supports advocates and organizations in their work to improve the lives of Connecticut children.
