Project Title: Mentoring for a better tomorrow
Project Description:
MFC’s mission is to unlock the potential in every youth through career-based mentoring.
To support the holistic development of youths in resource-limited communities, MFC enables the health and growth of youths in four dimensions: higher education readiness, career development, resilience/Social Emotional Learning, and asset-based community activism. We guide youths’ transformative growth through one-on-one mentorship, personal development workshops, college and career readiness workshops, and community impact projects that youths research, design, and execute with the support of their mentors. MFC also provides scholarships to youths who successfully complete the mentorship program and show proof of enrollment in post-secondary education.
MFC recognizes that access to and participation in higher education, as well as having connections to supportive community resources, prove essential to breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty and fostering the development of strong self-identity in youths hoping to gain economic independence. Thus, our work aims to increase the educational success rate of First-Generation, Low-Income (FGLI) and unhoused youths and provide equity of access through structured mentorship, communal social support, and scholarships for postsecondary education.
MFC’s 9-month-long mentoring program provides diverse services allowing youths to gain equity of access to higher education and career readiness through:
– Personal Mentor Relationship
– Peer Cohort Mentorship
– Personal Development Workshops
– Self-Designed Community Impact Projects (CIPs)
– Culmination Project of preparing and presenting their CIPs to an audience of 100 stakeholders at their graduation.
– Music Production Workshops
– College Admissions and Financial Aid Counseling
– Employment/Career Counseling
– Paid Internships
– Higher Education Scholarships
As MFC provides the infrastructure for academic achievement, career readiness, social-emotional development, and community activism, youths unlock their potential and acquire the tools, networks, and support needed to build a better tomorrow for themselves, their families, and the local community.
