Project Title: Every Kid Outdoors
Project Description:

Project Impact 180’s "Every Kid Outdoors" Initiative is a proactive response to the concerning issue of "Nature deficit disorder" affecting Chicago’s youth in the digital age. The initiative aims to reconnect young individuals with the natural world by inspiring engagement in non-digital activities, with a focus on reducing screen time and encouraging outdoor exploration.

With a mission to strengthen the bond between Chicago’s youth and nature, "Every Kid Outdoors" seeks to redirect attention from digital screens and foster a profound connection with the great outdoors. The program specifically targets Chicago’s youth, with special consideration for those facing challenges in high-crime communities. It recognizes their unique struggles and provides tailored outdoor experiences, serving as a lifeline for escape and offering a fresh perspective on life beyond their usual surroundings.

The program’s activities range from family cooking nights to adventurous pursuits like hiking, camping, creative writing, painting, rock climbing, and kayaking. Each activity is designed not only to captivate participants but also to provide tangible cognitive and emotional benefits.

"Every Kid Outdoors" emphasizes the advantages of outdoor engagement, including increased intelligence, happiness, attention span, and reduced anxiety. Beyond these benefits, the program aims to build confidence, instill responsibility, promote physical activity, reduce stress, stimulate critical thinking, improve mood, and alleviate symptoms of ADHD.

Open to potential collaborations, the initiative envisions a brighter, healthier future for Chicago’s youth. With a year-round schedule of activities, ongoing evaluation based on predefined metrics, and opportunities for participation and support, "Every Kid Outdoors" aims to create a lasting connection between Chicago’s youth and the natural world in a concise and impactful manner.
