Project Title: Youth Empowerment
Project Description:

J & P National Youth Empowerment Network, NFP aim to serve 80 individuals over a 2-year period. The target audiences will reflect youth 16 – 24 years that are returning to society, drop out, low to no income and with multiple employment barriers. J & P National Youth Empowerment Network has been successful in establishing economic development programs for youth that support education, career development, workforce and entrepreneur. In addition, J & P National Youth Empowerment Network created a singular and primary wrap – around cadre of essential services for youth that is in alignment with the JTED program model. Funding for this project will provide an umbrella of services which with its affiliates administer a comprehensive retinue of programs involving training, business coaching, literacy education, financial literacy, mentoring, career development, career advancement and training, resources and funds to address barriers. This wrap around model will be provided both internally and externally support through a variety of governmental, community, social, health and business career related programs. J & P’s model focused in three major areas. The first is a range of direct hands-on constituent services outlined in the initial assessment but not limited to counseling and referral for assistance with housing, employment and education services and health care. The second is Literacy, Job readiness, career development with an emphasis on business planning and job training. The third area of importance is community relations and advocacy for issues of importance for the youth enrolled in the program.

Geographical Area Served: The target population for J & P National Youth Empowerment Network is the community’s most economically, occupationally, and educationally disadvantaged young men and women on the far southside of Chicago. Youth will be recruited from the communities located in the far south suburbs which will include; Harvey, Markham, Riverdale, Chicago Heights, Calumet City, Dolton and resident located in the Thornton Township District. The communities we seek to service demonstrate 50 percent of more of the households have an income less than 60 percent of the Area Median Gross Income (which is calculated at the MSA or county level)The poverty rate is at least 50 percent. Share of population consisting of children age 6 to 17 in households with income less than 125% of the federal poverty level (FPL),share of population consisting of adults over age 64 in households with income less than 200% FPL; shares of population in household with income less than 150% FPL; or share of population consisting of children ages 5 and under in households with income less than 185% FPL.
