Project Title: IFS Youth Mentorship Initiative
Project Description:

I Care Family Services is a Child Placing agency in the state of Georgia which trains and equips quality foster homes to care for children who have experienced trauma, abuse, and neglect. Our organization is requesting financial support for a new youth mentorship program that will focus on the training and equipment of basic life skills for youth ages 0-21. This exciting initiative will not only train youth in life skills but will provide an individual who will work with the youth in developing leadership skills, good decision making, relationship building, and goal setting.
All funding received will be utilized for transportation, event planning, program fees, training expenses and other costs related to the implantation and promotion of the youth mentorship services provided by I Care Family Services.
The National Mentoring Resource Center has provided recent research statistics that describe the benefits of mentorship for youth who have been impacted by the foster care system. Children in foster care often experience multiple moves from home to home and deal with other issues that stem from trauma including but not limited to lack of confidence, high rates of depression and suicidal ideations. Youth mentorship can curve these statistics in the favor of youth in foster care. Trained youth mentors will receive supervision on a regular basis from IFS staff members who have an established working relationship with each youth that enters the program. Strong mentorship relationships involve building mutual trust and understanding with a commitment to build a bridge especially for youth who are transitioning to independence. The IFS youth mentorship program will need the financial support of dedicated community stakeholders to ensure that the program will have the greatest impact possible in the lives of Georgia youth.
