Project Title: EmpowHer Camp
Project Description:
EmpowHer Camp is designed to unleash the power within girls with disabilities ages 13 to 18! Picture this: an exciting two-summer program with a year of mentoring in between, filled with skill-building, mentorship, and significant growth!
During the first summer, we embrace the great outdoors with a week of hands-on learning about disaster preparedness and basic survival skills. It’s not just camping; it’s about discovering independence and honing leadership skills amidst the stunning backdrop of nature. EmpowHer Camp not only teaches survival but instills a sense of self-sufficiency and resilience.
After the week of camping, our girls dive into a yearlong community impact project. Guided by their mentors, they become change-makers, weaving the lessons from camp into their local communities. It’s not just a project; it’s a chance to make a real difference and grow into empowered leaders.
And we don’t stop there! The next summer, when the girls finish their projects, our campers reunite in the heart of Washington, D.C., to present their projects to our nation’s leaders and demonstrate how they’ve grown as leaders!
EmpowHer Camp isn’t your typical summer getaway; it’s a life-altering journey. Run by the passionate women of Disability EmpowHer Network, this program is more than just a camp—it’s a movement. In a world where empowerment programs are scarce, EmpowHer Camp is showing girls with disabilities a path to live life to their fullest potential.
Studies show that girls with disabilities often face lower self-esteem and a shortage of relatable role models. EmpowHer Camp changes the game by bringing these girls face-to-face with successful disabled women mentors. It’s not just about learning; it’s about forming connections and friendships that last a lifetime. The impact isn’t just felt by the girls; families witness a positive transformation, and mentors find fulfillment in guiding the next generation.
