Project Title: 2024 Music Camp (non-marching) for Middle and High Schoolers
Project Description:

Music is an integral part of the fabric of our society. The intrinsic value of music is recognized in the many cultures that make up American Life. Every human culture uses music to carry forward its ideas and ideals. It connects us to our history, our traditions, and our heritage. It is a dominant force in the world, shaping every culture’s senses, as well as the valued of its children, as few other forces can. It is the language all people speak that cuts across racial, cultural, social, educational barriers and enhances cultural appreciation and awareness.

AMP has identified an unmet met for marginalized, low-income students in predominantly black Georgia neighborhoods for music education skill development. Public school music programs serving predominantly minority youth in low-income neighborhoods lack intensive talent development that enhance skills for student musicians who are interested in building their music appreciation and performance.

In 2024, AMP is launching a supplemental music education program for middle and high school students that will bridge the gap for low-income music students who live in Cobb, Douglas, Paulding and Carroll counties in Georgia. The Mary Frances Early Music Camp (non-marching) will premier in June 2024 with an intensive 5-day music education experience focusing on student achievement by increasing playing ability, performing challenging band literature, scales, tone quality, and reading skills. The final day of camp will be devoted to performance.

Students will return to their schools as leaders and core musicians who enhance the performance ability of their school band programs. Seniors will be better prepared to transition and gain admission into a hyper-competitive college music program where they will further hone their craft in pursuit of one day joining prestigious orchestras like the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, or the Philadelphia Orchestra.
