Project Title: EmpowerYouth: Building Futures, Breaking Barriers
Project Description:

Our project, "EmpowerYouth: Building Futures, Breaking Barriers," is a comprehensive initiative by Our Future Children, Inc (OFC) aimed at uplifting at-risk youth in Hawaii. In response to the pressing challenges faced by these young individuals—stemming from parental hardships, inadequate education, and homelessness—our program integrates mentoring, education, and hands-on job training.

Mentors, trained in evidence-based techniques by the Arise Foundation, will guide participants through a life skills curriculum covering crucial topics such as anger management, domestic abuse prevention, and substance abuse awareness. This mentorship is complemented by the establishment of a job training facility, providing practical skills to meet the demands of the local job market.

A unique aspect of our initiative is the creation of a farm-to-table food truck park. This innovative setup not only imparts business and hospitality management skills but also addresses the shortage of trained workers in the post-COVID hospitality industry. The park will be maintained by students and young adults, fostering a sense of ownership and pride as they witness the fruits of their hard work.

Our target areas—Kapolei, Ewa Beach, Aiea, and Waianae—are communities with a demonstrated need for such support. Our ultimate goal is to see at least 50% of participating youth graduate with a marketable trade or skill and improve their academic performance by at least one letter grade.

This project aligns with OFC’s longstanding commitment to youth development, building on our successful track record of mentoring thousands of children in Texas from 2009 to 2018. The requested grant funding will be instrumental in realizing the transformative potential of "EmpowerYouth," fostering resilient, skilled, and empowered youth prepared for a brighter future.

Total Project Budget: $10,000
