Project Title: Equitable Arts Education
Project Description:

At BAX, we believe that artistic exploration and productions create opportunities for world-making, which, over time, make new realities possible. We strive to build a welcoming, brave, and equitable space for artists to further their creative practice and surpass their artistic expectations. Over 10,000 diverse constituents each year, from across New York City, directly inform the intention and format of our robust array of programs. We strive to serve artists, audiences, students, and community members of all races, backgrounds, cultures, sexual orientations, gender identities, disabilities, and aesthetic traditions. BAX engages 3,000 children and teens each year through unique dance, music, theater, and performing arts-based experiences, both at our home in Park Slope, Brooklyn and in spaces across New York City. Our year round-programs take place in-school and in out-of-school settings, all available to students through scholarships and sliding scale tuition. Programs are designed to support students in their growth; offer opportunities for mutually beneficial, artistically generative exchanges; and share their knowledge with communities through performances and presentations with other schools. In 2023-24, BAX’s Arts Education opportunities will include:

1) Public School Residencies
2) The Teen Artist Exchange, which invites NYC teen performance ensembles and directors to a free day of workshops, panel discussions, resource exchanges and a shared performance.
3) YouthWorks has been a cornerstone program at BAX Education. Mirroring BAX’s adult resident artist programs, BAX provides young artists with space, time, artistic advisorship, marketing and technical production support.
3) Arts Education Scholarships to ensure access, regardless of financial status.
