Project Title: Wrapped in Love Diaper Bank
Project Description:
Wrapped in Love Diaper Bank is a grassroots approach to alleviating the cost of diapering while strengthening use of resource programs that serve the county’s struggling families. Community Counts, established in 1997, is Wil’s non-profit fiscal agent, providing oversight management and non-financial support for raising project funding.
Diaper needs are a hidden consequence of poverty and lack of resources. Assistance in meeting diaper needs is an unmet service in Yavapai County. Diaper banks are structured to raise funds and inventory for diapering babies or adults suffering from incontinence. WiL staff and volunteers are coordinating with family serving programs, community agencies, shelters, and schools to ensure under resourced populations are accessing all resources available to assist them in raising healthy children. In addition, older individuals have access to life improving incontinence supplies.
This diaper bank collaboration with existing service organizations and passionate community members will help meet the needs of struggling families. Work is being accomplished through the following strategies: 1) Increasing community partner participation and distribution of diapering essentials to families in need; 2) Increasing organizational visibility in the community; and 3) Enhancing operational efficiency.
Diapers have the power to change lives. An adequate supply of diapers is a basic need that significantly impacts the health of the community and creates a new approach to prevention by keeping babies warm, dry, and healthy. An insufficient supply of diapers can cause a family to spiral deeper into poverty and distress. Most childcare centers, even free and subsidized facilities, require parents to provide a day’s supply of disposable diapers. WiL helps mitigate the costs, assist parents that cannot go to work or school if they cannot leave their babies at childcare, and reduce potential health risks for babies and individuals remaining too long in soiled diapers.
