Project Title: Creating Promise for Youth
Project Description:
Connecting Generations provides students in over 100 public, private, and charter schools across the State of Delaware with the tools to become emotionally strong, resilient, and socially competent individuals who can successfully navigate school and life.
Creative Mentoring pairs students with positive adult mentors committed to nurturing trust through listening, unconditional acceptance, and compassion. and encouraging positive choices. Mentors provide stable relationships and encourage positive decisions. Creative Mentoring offers weekly school-based, mentoring sessions throughout the school year.
Creative Education programs introduce students to the five social emotional learning (SEL) tenets: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Interactive classroom-based and small-group workshops are designed to nurture values of respectful behavior, positive coping skills, and encouraging academic success.
Tied to American School Counselor Association standards, Creative Education programs support efforts to improve school climate, enhance Positive Behavior Support Programs (PBS) and are bullying prevention tools.
Several programs fall under this umbrella and focus on all children especially those facing trauma, loss, or adversity.
• Seasons of Respect – Exploration & Journey of Respect guide 4th & 5th students as they build a social emotional toolbox to use at school, home, and in life.
• Power of Water- created in response COVID challenges, teaches strategies to deal with change and trauma.
• Respect Through the Arts- introduces elementary & middle school students to SEL using art.
• Character Climb- uses comprehensive SEL skills to train 4th & 5th graders to provide support for K-2nd graders.
Our Creative Collaborations division provides programming for children in specialized populations.
• SibShops helps siblings of children with special needs become aware of their emotions, strengths, interests, and responsibilities, and provides growth opportunities. Youth will develop awareness for others as well as decision-making and relationship skills.
• Foster Care Initiative places mentors with youth in foster care.
