Project Title: Students Rising Above: College Success for Low-Income, First-Generation College Students
Project Description:

Since 1998, Students Rising Above (SRA) has helped craft, nurture, and navigate college experiences that lead to meaningful careers. We empower students facing systemic barriers to define and find success through their education, career, and life. We envision a world where everyone can achieve economic and social equity.

SRA provides resources including scholarships, laptops, college success and career development workshops, paid internships, networking opportunities, and 1:1 mentorship to ensure talented lower-income students have the support they need to succeed in college and in their future careers.

SRA offers two distinct programs:
Rising Stars Program: This program provides a unique level of student-centric and highly personal support. Students receive college and career advising, college admissions counseling, healthcare navigation, academic support, financial support and literacy, and mental health support.

SOAR Program: The SOAR program scales up the Rising Stars program services, providing access to SRA resources to students nationwide through our online portal, workshops, and advising.

SRA provides services to empower students who need it the most:
-67% live below the federal poverty line (the vast majority live below the Bay Area poverty line)
-96% are first-generation college students
-95% are people of color
-25% are in foster care, guardianships, or on their own
-21% have experienced homelessness

Students who complete our program achieve higher success rates than the national average. 100% of our Rising Star students are accepted into a four-year university, 100% receive some sort of financial aid, and 100% have health care insurance. 91% complete a bachelor’s degree and 78% are in career-ladder roles or graduate school within twelve months of graduation. 64% of SRA students complete their degree without debt.
