Project Title: STAR Club Program
Project Description:

Millwood Impact has a close partnership with the West Valley School District and the district is aware of the needs of kids and families within the community. Because of these relationships, Millwood Impact has been made aware of the needs by the school counselors, teachers, and administrators. It was the staff at the schools and the West Valley Superintendent that shared that after-school programs were a major need in this community. Most of these students come from poverty of one form or another, many are food insecure, and some come from single parent households. These students are the ones that the staff see as needing the most social, emotional, and academic needs.

This foundation in working directly with West Valley School District is what helped us form STAR Club to what it is today. We serve 32 elementary aged students from 2 different schools, 4 times a week. These students are in our program 2 hours each afternoon where they learn life skills like cooking, sewing, and gardening, along with working on STEAM and specific art and craft projects. Everything we do is with the purpose of sparking curiosity and providing a safe space for students to grow, learn, and be connected to a handful of strong, kind, and committed adults. This has already been proven that STAR Club has helped these students in their social, emotional, and academic selves.

These funds would help us fund the continued program costs going into next fall that it takes to invest in these kids and their families, with the possibility of expanding to even more students if funding is in place. Our mission aligns with your foundation’s goal of providing these kids with the necessary tools to succeed and to achieve their full potential.
