Project Title: Students Needs Support Project
Project Description:
Eliada Academy provides for the educational needs of elementary through high school students located in and around Buncombe County, North Carolina who are enrolled in Eliada’s Residential and Day Treatment Programs. The youth served at Eliada Academy have numerous barriers to social inclusion, success, and overall well-being. The majority have experienced some form of abuse and neglect, around half have individualized education plans, and every student has some form of diagnosis (disability, mental health, etc.). Case managers provide daily contact with parents to support treatment, facilitate communication of progress or needs, and coordinate student transition back to public schools. Class curriculum is performed in accordance with NC standards for core curriculum so that they can receive the mental health assistance needed without falling behind on their education.
Our Academy best serves students in Middle and Elementary school. Since we are a small institution, it is difficult for our teachers to offer a wide variety of courses for high school students. Therefore, we are proposing a Students Needs Support project to cover the expenses of additional online classes that can offer a more diverse educational experience. This will not only help keep our high school students on track with their education but also allow them to pursue individual interests. These classes can be used for electives and will transfer back to their public school once leaving Eliada’s care. We also have identified a need for SAT and ACT preparation materials to prepare them for crucial tests and encourage further academic participation (i.e., the pursuit of higher education). These additional components to Eliada’s Academy aim to improve interest in academics and the development of career goals.
Total Project Budget: 10,500
Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Eliada Academy is entirely funded by Government Contracts, State Services, and Medicaid. The Student Needs Support Project will be funded by grant sources and classes will be provided as funds are available. The more funds we are able to acquire, the more virtual opportunities we can provide to our students. Other potential sources include Dollar General Literacy Grant, the Carolina Panthers Foundation, Max and Victoria Dreyfus Foundation, and the Chisolm Foundation.
