Project Title: CHS All In
Project Description:
Coastal Heritage Society (CHS) operates six engaging museums in Savannah, Georgia, including Savannah Children’s Museum and Georgia State Railroad Museum, as well as a mobile museum that brings educational programs from beyond the walls of our museums directly into the community. Through these resources, we serve over 140,000 people annually and believe that our unique learning experiences should be available to everyone. As part of this resolve, we have developed the CHS All In initiative.
In 2023 we expect CHS All In will reach approximately 6,000 underserved members of our community at no cost to them. This multifaceted initiative removes economic barriers in three ways: provides free admission to CHS museums for visitors who receive EBT/SNAP/WIC benefits, including out-of-state; delivers free CHS field trips to our community’s Title I schools; and brings our Mobile Museum outreach programming directly into communities that need it most. Along with this comprehensive approach, we utilize targeted marketing and strategic partnerships with community organizations to ensure we reach all community members equitably.
Over 45% of Savannah-Chatham County students are economically disadvantaged, facing barriers that impede academic development and postsecondary success. The pandemic has further exacerbated gaps in academic achievement. CHS All In aligns with the needs of low-income and underserved communities by removing the obstacles of cost and transportation and broadening educational opportunities. Eliminating economic barriers to entry enables us to create meaningful connections with all children, regardless of race and socioeconomic status, and support academic success.
As we continue to grow CHS All In, we will amplify our impact in Savannah and beyond by investing in equitable access to education, widening our reach, and creating meaningful experiences for children and their families on which the community can rely.
