Project Title: Equity in Access to Informal Science Education
Project Description:

Free Science Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded in 2017 by science educators that provides a supportive, community-based space for low-income and underrepresented youth to explore their world and expand their capabilities through science and creativity. The mission of Free Science, Inc is to promote equity in science education for underserved and underrepresented community members through accessible, interest-driven, neighborhood-based science spaces and mobile programs.
Our organization is committed to responding to the emerging needs of the youth in our community and we have seen significant growth in the last two years. We are requesting funds for operations that will support the sustainable growth of our organization. Our response to the needs of youth in our community who do not have the resources to attend traditional after school programs has resulted in additional operational costs for our organization. Funding would allow us to increase our staff from 2.15 FTE to 3.0 FTE and support organizational governance costs such as strategic planning, board development, professional development, and financial oversight.
