Project Title: Mentor Program
Project Description:

Blueprint 58 is a community-based development program in the Adair Park and Pittsburgh neighborhoods of Atlanta. Blueprint 58 was birthed from the belief that lasting relationships are the only context for true community and heart transformation. Our mission is to strengthen our community by empowering youth, equipping young adults and families, and engaging neighbors.

One way we strive to intentionally build these relationships and empower youth in our community is through our one on one mentoring program. Here at Blueprint 58, we take on a different definition of mentoring; we believe that both our students and mentors have much to learn from each other. Our mentoring program is based on the idea that our mentors may have much knowledge to bestow to their mentees, but they have equally as much to learn from their mentees. Mentoring for Blueprint 58 is about sparking mutually transformational relationships in the hopes that our mentors and students learn and grow together. Blueprint 58’s mentoring program matches 4th grade students in the Pittsburgh and surrounding neighborhoods of Atlanta with local mentors. Our program specifically focuses on building relationships within our community.

Blueprint 58 mentors are required to see their students at least twice a month and for at least 4 hours a month. Mentors are also expected to communicate with their student weekly. Our mentoring program is based upon the hope that mentors will build organic relationships with their students and that both students and mentors become part of each other’s families. However, we know that starting these relationships and building them up can be challenging, so we are committed to supporting and encouraging our mentors and students throughout their mentoring relationships. Blueprint 58 provides ongoing support to mentor pairs through fellowship events, mentor appreciation events, ongoing training for mentors, and parent engagement events.

Blueprint 58 is committed to our mentored students through high school, regardless of whether a mentor can fulfill their commitment or not. Once a child is paired with a mentor, we will continue to match them with a mentor throughout their middle and high school career.
