Project Title: Safe Harbor
Project Description:

The Emergency Youth Shelter opened its doors in August of 1988, and remains the only one of its kind in Central Jersey. Its Mission was and remains to provide safe haven for runaway, homeless, abandoned, abused and neglected youth, and provide them with the supports and the tools to unlock their potential by learning skills that empower them to build successful lives, relationships, and futures. Over the last 35 years of service, Ocean’s Harbor House has grown from an emergency shelter to a multi-service organization with focused in 3 areas:
Youth Homelessness,
Youth and Families in Crisis,
Sexual Exploitation of Children.
The Emergency Youth Shelter helps our children leave the streets and abusive, dangerous homes. It is a 12 bed, 30-day facility accessible 24/7 with a 24-hour hotline.
The funds will be used to help Ocean’s Harbor House provide:
Emergency housing to ensure basic survival needs of shelter, food and clothing are met,
Medical services to assist in identifying/meeting any urgent pending medical issues including and not limited to gynecological, dental, vision, chronic health issues, and including guidance and education in preventive healthy lifestyle choices,
Education services including but not limited to daily middle/high school attendance, home instruction where warranted, GED completion for expelled/dropped out students, and technical/vocational/higher education opportunities for those youth seeking those opportunities.
Counseling and case management services including individual, group, parent, family counseling, along with case management coordination designed to manage family issues, heal trauma, prevent exploitation and recognize grooming efforts, and counter self-destructive behaviors.
Character education, self-help, healthy living, drug prevention and anger management groups.
Since 1988, The Emergency Shelter has provided 12,775 consecutive days of safe shelter for over 6,000 youth, 38,325 nutritious meals, 306,600 hours of professional supervised care, and over 70,000 hours counseling and life skills training.

Total Project Budget: $826015 – Shelter expenses for one year.

Project Duration: $5,658 will fund one child for one month at the Shelter.
