Project Title: Children and Youth Mental Wellness Program
Project Description:
Our Children and Youth Mental Wellness program serves Palm Beach County (PBC) children/youth 3-18 who are otherwise denied services due to inability to afford. Our Children and Youth Mental Wellness program helps those served regulate their emotions, stop self-harming behaviors and suicide ideation/attempts and prevents costly, additionally traumatic inpatient placements.
Serving this need since 2012, and with the mental health ramifications of Covid, the current need has never been greater. In 2022, we provided services to 200+ children/youth through our community-centered ‘avenues to care’; in-office, telehealth, satellite locations and Mobile Hope Clinic (MHC).
Services to in-need children/youth are always:
• FREE to those who qualify
• provided by qualified therapists experienced in child/youth trauma
• offered in English, Spanish, Creole, reducing language barriers
• available without a waitlist
• provided through several easily accessible access points through our ‘avenues to care’
The MHC is our most innovative addition to our avenues to care in our mission to ensure ALL children/youth can receive care regardless of socioeconomic status. The MHC is PBC’s first and only mobile mental healthcare office, operating on our highly successful ‘community-partner model’; partnering with other local agencies where children/youth already visit for other services, thereby eliminating the hardship of additional travel to us. Since the MHC’s rollout in May 2021, 150+ high-need children/youth have been able to access services aboard the MHC.
Clients without insurance/living below poverty level are offered 8-10 FREE sessions. Those not qualifying for free sessions are offered extremely reduced sliding scale rates starting at just $45 per session with grant funding subsidizing the deficit.
Continued funding from the Hermanowski Foundation in 2024 will support the increasing need for direct mental healthcare services to children/youth through any of our avenues to care. An award of $10,000 will provide services to approximately 20 at-risk children/youth in 2024.
