Project Title: JA Financial Literacy Programs
Project Description:
Junior Achievement’s mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed. Volunteers inspire K-12 students as they deliver our lessons and share their life experience. JA’s proven, age-specific programs prepare students for success by promoting financial capability, work and career readiness, and business ownership.
Junior Achievement respectfully requests $7,500 to provide approximately 250 students in 10 classes across Miami-Dade County with JA financial literacy programs. The cost for each classroom sponsorship is $750 and includes instructional materials for 25 students, detailed activity plans for the volunteer, workbooks for students, and consumable materials to be used in the classroom. It also includes JA staff time to recruit and train volunteers, coordinate with the schools, and oversee program implementation.
For students in kindergarten through sixth-grade, JA’s elementary programs teach the basic concepts of business and economics. Through activities that build on lessons and learning standards across the school curriculum and from each preceding grade, students discover individual economic roles and the roles of families in the local economy. They also learn about responsibilities and opportunities within their community as they explore economic development, local businesses, and career opportunities.
The per-student cost is $30 and will work towards developing a generation of young people in Miami who know how to budget, save, and invest; a generation of tenacious individuals armed with the knowledge and capabilities to take control of their financial futures, their careers, and achieve their dreams. With the financial support of the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation, JA’s programs and volunteers will continue to provide underprivileged students the financial literacy education needed to break the cycle of poverty. We will continue to inspire kids to harness their innate entrepreneurial instincts as a path to success.
