Project Title: PHIT Kids NYC Campaign
Project Description:

PHIT America is a national nonprofit established in 2013 with the mission of tackling the Inactivity Pandemic and thereby improving the physical and mental health of the 50 million children in our elementary schools. Many of these schools have been forced to eliminate or drastically decrease Physical Education (PE) from their educational programs. Nationwide, PHIT America has placed our quality-tested, out-of-the-box PE Programs in over 1,300 schools that educate over 740,000 children. These programs have been built in partnership with leading experts and national athletic and sports associations. Our overall goal is to create healthier, smarter, and happier kids by enhancing every USA elementary schools’ PE curriculum with a program that teaches basic health and fitness skills and introduces kids to lifetime sports such as golf and tennis. We already have school partners in NYC seeking to expand their programs with us and $5,000 will allow us to add programs in 2 schools.

Our 2022-2024 objective is to place PE curriculum and equipment in 5% of New York City public
elementary schools (50 schools), especially Title I schools. Although New York City does have certain
requirements around Physical Education – specifically requiring 120 minutes per week with some
activity every day for K-3 – in many cases, due to a lack of resources and large class sizes, students
are left inactive during unstructured time. In the 2021-2022 school year, 72% of children in New
York City public schools were classified as economically disadvantaged. 41% Hispanic; 25% black;
17% Asian; 14.7% white.
