Project Title: Parking Lot and Gravel Road Build for BoysGrow Farm
Project Description:
BoysGrow is a year-round agricultural youth development program that includes farm tours and community events hosted by the participating youth. BoysGrow’s current parking lot framework is an open field. BoysGrow needs to build a parking lot and transform a dirt road into a gravel driveway to improve the property. The year-round programming, events, and tours require a safe and accessible parking lot and route to the rest of the farm for staff, volunteers, and visitors.
Hosting events in winter or during potential rainfall is currently problematic due to the parking situation. The dirt road leading to the southern part of the farm becomes impassable in the rainy spring months and does not present a strong presence of the organization. Ground improvements are essential to provide a more accessible and appealing experience on the farm for tours, community events, and hosting partnering organizations.
Community events and tours provide essential opportunities for BoysGrow to connect with the general public, partnering organizations, and potential funders. Further, the events hosted through the farm kitchen with our participating youth are vital to the BoysGrow program. BoysGrow youth work at some of these events and are thus able to showcase their hard work on the farm. These events, coupled with the events hosted by private parties renting the Farm Kitchen space, are crucial fundraising opportunities for the program.
With the installation of a parking lot and gravel road, BoysGrow can increase its profile as a site for agro-tourism. Agro-tourism allows people to connect with the land and the inner workings of food production. Touring the BoysGrow farm will enable people to see the success and benefits of its youth programming.
