Project Title: Next Youth Leaders
Project Description:

Next Youth provides different programming to youth in the New York area. Our most popular are Bridging the Gap and Lightning Academy.

Bridging the Gap is an open forum between youth and police officers to discuss current issues and events plaguing the community. In the wake of recent events have sparked nationwide protests. The already strained relationship between law enforcement and the black community has resurfaced. Trust has been lost. Lives have been lost, leaving the urban community extremely frustrated and reaching its boiling point. The results were rebellions throughout most major cities across the country. It’s vital for police agencies to make improving relationships with their local community a top priority.

Next Youth Leader has partnered with the New York Police Department (NYPD) to bring a multiple session program to youth to discuss issue plaguing our communities. These discussions have led to meaningful conversation and information given to our youth.

Lightning Academy is a program for middle and high school students who do not have access to tutors or extra help outside the classroom. Lightning Academy currently serves 150 youth in a variety of subject including math, science, English and history.
