Project Title: Camp Scholarship Fund
Project Description:

We respectfully request funding to support the Camp Easterseals scholarship program.
For over 65 years, Camp Easterseals has provided exceptional camp programming for people with disabilities. It is a lifeline to many, where children and adults with disabilities enjoy a fun-filled outdoor experience and activities they may be unable to access anywhere else; including horseback riding, canoeing, swimming, arts and crafts, ziplining, campfires and more! Camp is a fully accessible facility; able to accommodate campers with a wide range of needs. Camp Easterseals proudly serves more than 500 individuals annually.
Camp Easterseals provides three central benefits for campers, their families, and camp staff. For campers, in addition to great fun, camp provides the opportunity to gain independence, explore new interests, and foster valuable friendships. Second, it gives caregivers a much-needed break. For some, this is their only time apart for the year, allowing for opportunities to spend time with siblings, partners, or to simply recharge from the rigors of daily caregiving duties. Third, camp gives college age staff the invaluable experience of serving people with disabilities. Many of our counselors are pursuing healthcare or therapeutic fields of study. Being able to gain an in depth understanding of the challenges faced by children and adults with disabilities provides a valuable foundation for these future professionals, and enhances their ability to care for individuals with a variety of complex needs.
Funds will be used exclusively to provide summer camp scholarships to children with disabilities and financial need to attend Camp Easterseals. For those who request support, funds are distributed based on a sliding scale using family income. The last several years have presented financial challenges for many families. For those caring for a loved one with a lifelong disability, there are often many additional financial burdens present, from healthcare and therapeutic costs to specialized equipment and care needs. 38 % of families who applied for summer camp in 2022 requested financial assistance. We seek to not only provide joy for our campers and respite for families, but also respite from any additional financial burdens.
