Project Title: JECC Jazz Bootcamp
Project Description:

JECC provides quality Jazz instruction and mentoring to youth, at a weekly rate of $5. The level of instruction and the depth that is reached is simply not possible with in-school ensembles, due to time constraints and class size. Private instruction can be cost-prohibitive for many families, shutting talented youth from opportunities to hone their skills.

The organization emphasizes quality over quantity, seeking to make a real and lasting difference for the youth that engage in the program. JECC’s Jazz Bootcamp, held at WDNA’s Studios since 2013 has sent project alumni on to some of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the country. Youth participants also have earned various awards, scholarships and many have gone on to become professional musicians.

Besides weekly instruction, participants have monthly performance opportunities. JECC has performed at Hollywood ArtWalk, South Beach Jazz Festival, and within Group performances curated by JECC and partners, Kuyayky Foundation, The South Florida Center for Percussive Arts and The Children’s Voice Choir, among others.

Executive Director Nicole Yarling has a 40 year career as professional musician, educator, and mentor to youth, serving as the curator for WDNA’s Jazz Encounters and with the Gold Coast Jazz Society as the organizer for their monthly Jam held at Art Serve for over 12 years. She is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music and utilizes her connections to bring high caliber individuals into rotation for the workshops offered through the program.
