Project Title: College Bound
Project Description:
Most of the students we reach through our flagship program, College Bound are at-risk, low-income, English-Language Learners. Approximately 91% of College Bound students are Hispanic/Latinx, 93% are low-income according to HUD income guidelines and 89% are first-generation college students.
Through College Bound, we facilitate students’ successful transition from high school, into college and, finally, into a career through intensive case management, educational enrichment, family counseling and financial assistance. College Bound serves 2,500 students through its hybrid model across Orange and Los Angeles County annually. Unlike other education programs, College Bound meets youth where they are and accepts all students into the program. We do not limit based on gross domestic product or grade point averages. College Bound is a commitment based on the effort of the student. Academic Advisors (Advisors) are the heart of College Bound. Advisors track students’ high school graduation requirements to ensure they have university and state university prerequisites. Additionally, Advisors help secure financial resources by matching students to scholarship and grant opportunities and provide application assistance with FAFSA, scholarships and grants. To ensure youth are fully supported at home, Advisors counsel parents/ caregivers about the process and costs associated with college, the value of earning a degree and how to best support their child. For first-generation college students whose families are often unfamiliar with college processes, the resources and services College Bound offers demystify the college application process and make attending college an attainable goal.
To ensure access for all, the Club is committed to keeping membership fees, which provide access to College Bound, to $1 per month, or free if families are unable to pay. There are no other organizations in the region that provide the level of case management that College Bound provides to students and families at this low cost.
