Project Title: Love The Hub Relief Assistance Program
Project Description:
Love the Hub was birthed out of the community work being done at Aldersgate Church in Lubbock, Texas. The Love the Hub fund was established on Easter Sunday 2020 in response to the abrupt arrival of the crises caused by the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Many people in Lubbock and greater West Texas lost jobs; many were temporarily without a paycheck while they were quarantined; and some were permanently without a paycheck when they needed to stay home with young children who no longer had school to go to each day.
We have taken great joy in helping give relief to families in need in the Hub City. To date, the Love the Hub fund has assisted over 600 individuals and families with over $160,000 in support. We estimate this assistance has impacted over 1500 Lubbock area-residents in at least 38 neighborhoods across the city. We have also provided assistance to 7 different rural cities in Lubbock county.
Although Covid-19 has been declared over, the needs in the Lubbock community have only continued to grow due to unprecedented inflation in a number of areas. A recent 2021 Lubbock community assessment highlighted needs for low income families in the Lubbock area. The three greatest needs were rent assistance, utility assistance, and help with food. We hear story after story, week after week, of hard working individuals and families that are unable to make all of their payments because one emergency or unexpected expense arose.
